Family Day March ’17 …

The work/life balance is a pain in the rear the vast majority of the time, so we picked the 3rd Saturday of every month to do something together, just the four of us, a designated Family Day. To help decide what we would do we used lollipop sticks numbered 1-12 in a jar. The numbers correspond to an activity we can do together, so it had to be age appropriate for a teen and a pre-schooler. We picked a couple and we asked the kids to pick a couple. This, so far, has made the ordeal of making a decision […]

THE Christmas Shop …

It is the first day of the Christmas holidays, and whilst I didn’t spend 2 hours bellowing at the kids to get out the door, I did get to spend it standing outside of Aldi waiting for it to open at 5 to 8 this morning waiting to get started with the Christmas Shop! I know, too rock and roll! I usually aim to have all presents and cards wrapped and written by the end of November; feeling expert level smugness for being so organised is an added bonus. The past few years I have failed miserably to achieve this […]

December 1st …

When we were little my Mum never got us a chocolate advent. December 1st saw the three of us deciding whos turn it was to open the first door on a card advent calendar, there was always an argument as to who went first and lots of finger counting to see how many doors we would each get to open. The calendar was always shared between the three of us. The card calendar Mum bought was so that she could randomly close one of the doors effectively delaying Christmas! We would go to bed in anticipation of Christmas Eve only […]

September …

Half way through September already. How’d that happen? Feels like it was only a few weeks ago I had paid the deposit for our holibobs and yet here we are a couple weeks post jolly and feeling a bit blue.  I hate the post holiday blues, however this year they’ve been quelled slightly by the fact I’ve already booked next years. We’ve not been in a position to do that before and it was great! We’ve booked to go to the Isle of Wight, which my girl is already dubbing it our ‘nearly almost abroad holiday’ bless her. She’s possibly […]

One to tell the grandkids …

Sometimes making memories isn’t pretty. At the time you feel aghast and dumbfounded, there are literally no words that pass your lips other than “I am so sorry!” When the dust has settled though you are able to laugh and set it aside as ‘one to tell the grandkids’. At the beginning of this year we were battling red numbers on bank accounts and a seeming never ending bombardment of unexpected bills. My budgeting spreadsheets made me groan out loud as I loaded in our living expenses and my hands frequently held my head as I tried to come to […]

This one was hard to write …

This one post has been written and rewritten more times than I care to count, almost impossibly hard to write. The words have become stuck in my throat, choking me as I try to expel the reality of where we are. I have had people question our motives, or belittle the situation to a flippant and cliché remark. Still we live with this every day and only now are others beginning to respond and see that we need help. 10 months ago I went to the GP with concerns for my daughter and her general mental state. She was always […]

Fifth Anniversary – Wood …

Very soon (next weekend) we will be celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary. Apparently it is wood which brought both hubby and I great amusement as we childishly cackled over all wood related innuendo. We should really know better, but I don’t think we ever got the memo! Five years in to our marriage and blending of our two families, we are still laughing, kissing, cuddling and holding hands. We still make each other blush and tummy’s go over when we think of each other. So what have we learned being married to each other and bringing families together? Actually quite […]

Exhaustion …

The other week was horrendous in more ways than one. The flu, sinusitis and an inner ear infection have left me at the point of utter exhaustion! I’m still dealing with the aftermath a week later. Waking up more tired than when I went to bed has made this week beyond challenging. I said to my friend, I know God doesn’t send us more than we are capable of dealing with, but sometimes I feel like calling a time out. I need a few minutes to just pause and catch my breath. When this level of exhaustion hits you it […]

Early mornings …

Our boy has been an early riser since he was born. There is no such thing as a lie in with him in the house. Although the morning starts were beginning to get a little too early for us. 5am is not a time for anyone to have to see every day! I had heard a few mentions of the Gro Clock previously and Googled it. I watched reviews and the demo video on YouTube. Hesitant about how a glowing clock would help we decided to bite the bullet and get one for our boy in the hope we could […]
