Birchbox {August 2018} …

Disclaimer: This is a review for which I have been gifted this August’s Birchbox, at no cost to myself, in exchange for a blog post. As always all opinions are my own and I have not been asked to provide any specific links, however I have included some affiliate links (details of how these work can be found here) and I have identified them with an asterisk (*).

This month BirchBox has teamed up with Etsy designers from across the UK to create some pretty special boxes. I was so pleased when asked if I would like to be gifted one as they are super cute. It also meant I could share some goodies with my daughter. I received the Jade Fisher design, which is super cool. I know my teen has her beady eye on it too. It also fits perfectly with this month’s theme of ‘Live a Life Beautiful’.

So what did I get in the box? This month there were full size products included, the Dr Botanicals Pomegranate Superfood Regenerating Face Sleeping Mask* and a Dirty Little Secret Eyeshadow Stick in ‘Fetch’*. There were some other gorgeous products in there too, one’s I was hoping I would get to try out! So let’s dig in.

Dirty Little Secret Eyeshadow Stick in ‘Fetch’

This is such a pretty eyeshadow stick*. The super creamy consistency goes on without dragging across the lid. It also has a great payoff on the pigment which is buildable. I would probably wear this with a little something darker to the crease for evening wear. Even on it’s own with a little winged eyeliner it is beautifully sophisticated. I also love the fact it is a mutli-tasker. You can easily use this as a highlighter too, because the consistency lends itself to blending it out very easily. This is a definite winner for throwing in the travel makeup bag.

Dr Botanicals Pomegranate Superfood Regenerating Face Sleeping Mask

I am not a huge fan of face masks, so let me put that out there. The time you need to allocate to applying it, waiting for it to dry and then removing every last bit from your face is just something I don’t need to add to my list. The Dr Botanicals sleeping mask* however is a game changer, especially for the Mama who has no spare time as it is! The delicate, not over powering, fragrance of the mask, the simplicity of just rubbing it over your face and then going to sleep without having to do anything else? What is not to love already? On my combination skin it was very mattifying, which I liked. I didn’t feel like I had a ton of product on my face and a little goes a long way. By morning my face felt lovely and hydrated, which is what you need as a sleep deprived mother!

Rituals the Ritual of Happy Buddha Foaming Shower Gel

I love this product. I have previously tried the Ritual of Ayurveda and loved it. In fact this came just as the other one had finished. Out the two I would have to say I prefer the Happy Buddha foaming gel*, the sweet orange and cedar wood scents are gorgeous. The gel also foams into a really luxurious lather which goes an awful long way. It is unsurprising the full size version is already sold out! My daughter tried it and loved it too, so there could be a battle in the bathroom over who gets to keep it. I may even resort to stashing it in my room! Either way this is a great product that is sure to make you feel happy.

Philosophy Purity 3 in 1 Cleanser

I had heard of Philosophy products before, and so when I saw the little bottle of 3in1 cleanser* was more than happy to give it a whirl. Firstly it smells lovely! Secondly a little goes a VERY long way which for the savvy Mama’s out there it will last you ages. I used it to take off all the eyeshadow stick, eyeliner, blusher and bright red lippy. After wetting my face with warm water I applied the cleanser all over and rubbing it over the heavy makeup areas, I just used a warm damp flannel to remove it all. I was curious to see how it coped with the red lippy and eyeliner, but it didn’t falter at all. It was so quick and my skin didn’t feel tight or overly dry afterwards, which was nice because my skin usually gets that horrible tightness after some cleansers which puts me right off using them. I am very tempted to treat myself to a full size version of this one though as it left my skin feeling so fresh, clean and hydrated.

Clé Cosmetics Melting Lip Powder

I have to say this is a weird product. I liked the pigment pay off, as it gives a really lovely matt red finish especially in the Red Cherry*. However, and it is a big however, it is funky going on your lips! It is a powder. You can shake the tube and see it tumbling about. You pull the applicator out and it is covered in fine red powder. Then you apply it to your lips and this is where it gets weird. The only way I can describe the sensation is it feels like tiny bubbles of cold water bursting on your lips as you apply it with the applicator. It isn’t the most even coverage, I feel like some of my other lipsticks are better, but it is a really pretty colour and as it is enriched with vitamin E it doesn't dry the lips out at all. This can also be used as a cheek tint, however this is very pigmented and i would hesitate to use something this red on my cheels. Perhaps if you were darker skin toned it would look lovely but on my English Rose pale skin, I wasnt willing to try it out!

So that was my August Birchbox, I absolutely loved trying all the products out this month. There are a few products going in my travel bag for our holiday, as they I already love them so much. Which products would you like to give a whirl? Let me know in the comments below.

If you would like to get your hands on one of the August Etsy Designer boxes follow this link* to grab on and have a go. They are a great little box through your letterbox each month which helps you get on track with a little self care, what's not to love about that?
